‘PEAK’ THEIR INTEREST WITH THE ULTIMATE WET FOOD
Your cat, whether a keen hunter or one who sleeps the day away, is a carnivore. This means they instinctively select foods rich in meat protein and fats.
Most discerning pet guardians know about the importance of meat but often overlook their cat’s need for moisture. In nature, cats receive 70-75% of their daily fluid intake from the meat they consume. Cats have a low thirst drive, so to mirror the moisture found in nature, adding wet food or topper to their diet is recommended. This is especially important for kidney and urinary health.
There are a couple more reasons to delight your cat with wet foods. First, wet foods offer variety ─ a range of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, for better nutrition. Additionally, it keeps mealtime exciting. For cats, nothing matters more than taste!
At ZIWI® Peak, we believe good nutrition can be delicious. Here are a few delicious, nutrient-dense ingredients to look for when choosing a wet food or topper:
NUTRIENT-DENSE NUTRITON
MEAT & ORGANS
Pet food companies often use plants or grains to increase protein levels in their products. This isn’t ideal for your carnivore, so be sure to select a protein-rich recipe crafted from meats and organs. Nature’s way of delivering essential minerals, vitamins, and amino acids─ from immunity to heart health, it is meat and organs that fuel your cat to thrive!
COLD-WASHED GREEN TRIPE
A class of its own, nutrient-rich tripe from grass-fed lamb, beef, or venison is an exceptional source of probiotics and digestive enzymes to promote optimal digestive health. Cats tend to be selective, but cold-washed green tripe is irresistible to even the fussiest cats.
NEW ZEALAND GREEN MUSSELS
Recognized as one of the most sustainable seafood ingredients in the world, New Zealand Green Mussels are nature’s powerhouse superfood. They are a rich source of glucosamine and chondroitin, which supports long-term joint health, as well as Omega-3 fatty acids to keep your cat’s skin and coat healthy.
PEAK NUTRITION without COMPROMISE
ZIWI® Peak recipes are crafted with these nutrient-dense ingredients into delicious moisture-rich pâtés. Every recipe features 92% meat, organs, and bone – all ethically and sustainably sourced from New Zealand.
What’s not in ZIWI® Peak recipes is just as important as what is. Our recipes are free from high glycemic carbohydrates such as grains, potatoes, and starches, as well as artificial preservatives or binders.
Select one from a wide variety of flavours (or try them all!), ZIWI® Peak wet foods can be fed exclusively or on top of your cat or kitten’s favourite food.
FUSSIER FELINE?
Cats are notoriously independent, and when it comes to food, they can be frustratingly finicky! The key to success is patience and consistency. If your cat does not like the new food right away, that’s normal. Here are our top tips for fussy cats:
ROUTINE
Cats are creatures of habit. They often expect to eat at the same time, from the same bowl, in the exact same location each day. When adding a new wet food topper to their bowl, be sure to keep this in mind. Changing any behaviours could be disruptive to mealtime – a suspicious cat is more likely to reject something new!
FAVOURITE FLAVOURS
Most cats have a favourite food and flavour, so when adding a new wet food topper, select a recipe that is closest to their favourite protein. Try sprinkling their favourite food on top of the new wet food topper to help encourage them to eat.
PLAY & PRAISE
Playing a game before eating (especially a ‘hunting’ game!) can help to stimulate your cat’s appetite. Petting your cat while they are in front of the food bowl can help to encourage them to eat and make them feel at ease with this new change.
Time, patience, and consistency are often required while transitioning your cat to a new food. Take your time; it will be worth it when you succeed. You’ll have peace of mind that your cat is receiving moisture and nutrient-rich nutrition, and your cat will soon love each and every bite.
